Rhinos on the rise

Leeds Rhinos have always been a big name in Rugby League but have recently not seen as much success as fans would have hoped for.

With their last title coming in 2017, fans had hoped to see them fighting for the title almost every year but that hasn’t been the case. Placing 9th (2018), 8th (2019) and 5th (2020).

Although its not all negative from the fans, Leeds Rhino Fan Page had this to say, “Last season was a vast improvement from the seasons that had gone before. Players stepped up and getting back into the playoffs gives me renewed hope for next season.”

With the increase in league positions albeit not huge it has boosted moral between fans and players. Not only are the players performing better and working together to get results, but the fans are backing the players to win big games and not giving up if they go behind in at any point.

With a few more improvements from the team fans believe they can get back to the top again “We need our players to deliver on all fronts. The defending still needs some working on and our attack could improve as well but the main focus should be defending, I’m very confident that we can do it too.”

One way that the team is improving is by adding big names “I am very positive in the signings we have made. Bringing in players like Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin should give the team a big boost and added experience.”

Having players that are good quality is great, but experienced players who can communicate with their teammates and pass on knowledge to younger players is crucial as it will mean players will know what needs to be done to look after themselves, so the team can play more games and reach the finals.

It also brings the advantage of younger players not needing three or four years to be at a level mentally where they can compete with the best. The experienced players in their respected positions will be teaching them “tricks of the trade” as well as the coaches teaching them “by the rulebook.”

Going into next season hopes are high and Rhinos have aspirations of winning the league, but I think any position above 5th will be an improvement as it will show they are going in the right direction. “Personally, we need to get back into the playoffs again next season and if possible make it to the Grand Final. It’s going to take a lot of hard work but I believe we can do it.”
