The Minstermen began the season with 3 consecutive defeats having been the bookies favourites to lift the 6th tier title and Mick, author of club fanzine 'Y front' wasn't surprised to see a change in the dugout, "I wasn't surprised as the decision to sack Watson, however it was a strange one as it seemed he still had the backing from the majority of supporters."

Since Watson's departure in mid October, The Minstermen have been upwardly mobile, climbing from 17th to 9th in just 4 league games under new boss Askey. Y front believes the new additions have made a big impact, "John seems to have seen what the fans have been seeing all season, a lack of pace, it was clear too see we needed some wingers as some of the squad aren't good enough."

(John Askey averages 2.2 points per game compared to Watson's 1.46 before his sacking.)

Mick went onto say "We have definitely improved since Askey came to the club, the team seems to be complete with the new signings and it's clear to see we are trying to play better football."

York have won 4 of Askeys 6 games in charge so far, conceding just 3 goals and keeping more clean sheets than Steve Watson's side had managed in the previous 16 games.

If The Minstermen carry on in this vein of form Mick sees no reason why a play off push can't take place "I do think Askey can get us to the lower play off places, however I'm not sure the team is strong enough to get promotion this season. However if we continue to bring in new recruits in January you never know."

Next up for City is a trip to Mill Farm to take on high flying AFC Fylde, and boss John Askey told BBC Radio York "We go there full of confidence after the run we've put together, there are no world beaters in this division and we can beat anyone on our day."
