Dobson hoping to build on breakthrough season

Scarborough born cricketer Leah Dobson admits that she is enjoying being a part of the Northern Diamonds, after an impressive breakthrough season.

Dobson scored 208 runs for the Northern Diamonds, making her debut against North West Thunder this season and has loved being a part of the 1st team.

“It’s been brilliant, coming off the last season when I didn’t play at all because of injury and then getting the opportunity to play in the first team has been great.

“It’s gone really well; I’ve made some good scores and I’ve been solid in the field.”

In 2018, Dobson won the Under 17’s Yorkshire women’s batter of the season, and has never looked back. She now shares a dressing room with World Cup winners such as Jenny Gunn and Lauren Winfield-Hill.

She added: “You learn a lot from those types of players and they’ve been performing brilliant for the team, Jenny Gunn’s experience is incredible and I love being able to play alongside her.”

A statement on Yorkshire Diamonds twitter said: “Dobson has a T20 top score of 161* for Yorkshire Under-17s, as well as featuring for the county’s senior team for the last few years. She’ll be looking for a breakthrough season into the Diamonds batting line-up”

The Diamonds entertained the Central Sparks at Scarborough’s North Marine Road, in the semi-final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Despite not scoring any runs, Dobson was over the moon to play at her home ground.

“It was amazing. I had no idea that it was going to be at home and It was really nice to be on home soil and bring everyone up north.

“To see a few familiar faces and to have all my family there was so special for me.

“It’ll always be a very proud moment, I obviously didn’t perform as well as I’d hoped to, but the crowd was great and it was such an amazing feeling”

“We were disappointed to lose, but I feel like we are getting closer and closer to a trophy and the margins are getting much smaller and eventually we’ll get over the line."
