Blades fans YouTube channel wins two awards

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

Sheffield United fan channel ‘Sheff United Way’ has won two awards at the Football Content Awards (FCAs) just over a year after being formed.

The annual awards ceremony, held in London, rewards the best football content creators across the world. It was attended by over 400 content creators at the Royal Lancaster Hotel.

The YouTube channel is hosted by Blades supporters Nick Wylie and Hal Stewart. The co-hosts won in categories Best Podcast and Best Club Content Creator.

“It was great to receive the awards because we have put so much effort into the channel over the last year,'' co-host Wylie said. “Sometimes seven videos a week takes it out of you, so it's just great to be recognised for the content you are doing."

The channel's podcast has seen a range of guests involved in football including Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah who is a fan of the channel.

“He got in touch with us and told us how much he enjoyed watching one specific fans forum we did, and then everything came along”, said Wylie.

“We’ve spoken to him many times since off-record and every time we speak to him, his level of knowledge not just about football but all sports is just really great. He’s a really nice gentleman and he’s never asked us to do something we wouldn't want to do."

The co-host is a believer in the importance of football fans having a voice and strives to ensure Sheff United Way provides a platform for that.

“It's huge. The reason I wanted to do Sheffield United content is because I wanted to give myself a voice, to speak my mind because I’m a very honest person when it comes to football."

He added: “So what we like to do is give lots of different people a voice. We aren’t a channel that just gets our mates on, we want to do varied topics on football with varied fans from old to young."

The Blades fans' aim upon starting the YouTube channel was to achieve a silver plaque which is awarded to those who reach 100 thousand subscribers. That remains his goal but if the channel doesn’t reach that, he is satisfied with what they have achieved so far.
