Blades fans slam the clubs board

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

Sheffield United supporters have slammed the club's board following managerial change.

The club sacked Slavisa Jokanovic on Thursday morning with the Under-23s lead coach Paul Heckingbottom replacing the Serbian immediately.

Blades fan Jake Staniland believes the sacking of Jokanovic is an “absolutely pathetic decision".

“A man with a proven track record. Fair enough [it has] not started off good," Staniland said. “But to then appoint Heckingbottom until 2026 is ridiculous."

He added: “The board clearly has no clue. They have no plan. They wanted Slav to work wonders with a squad of has beens that got smacked week in week out in the Premier League. No surprise they have a weak mentality this season, and look fragile at the back."

United fan Daryl Ball believes the decisions of owner Prince Abdullah are reasons for the clubs recent unsuccess on the pitch.

“The writing was on the wall when PA [Prince Abdullah] became sole owner," Ball said. “His dreams of United World without the required finance, not going for Wilder’s first choices, not valuing Chris Wilder, not backing Slav. All point to a style of micro-management."

During a one hour press conference on Thursday, chairman Yusus Giansiracuna said, “Paul was considered when we hired Slav but based on where we were as a club, we felt that Slav in the coaching role was the best decision."

He added: “I don’t think it was the wrong decision, it was the right at the time & I think today’s decision is the right one at the time.”

New boss Paul Heckingbottom’s first game back in charge will be against Bristol City at Bramall Lane this Sunday.
